How to Use Microsoft Teams Built-In Wiki – Guide

  1. Use Wiki pages to create and share information.
  2. Use Wiki sections to organize information.

The Wiki tab can be a great reference point for your team members to explain the team or channel objective in more detail. You can specify which topics should be covered in each channel, what format posts should be written in, and general guidelines for using the team or channel. The wiki is a great place to record all your workplace rules. For example, you can create pages that list your company’s remote work rules. This can include working hours, flexibility levels, focus hours, meeting days, a list of regular events, employee rights and responsibilities, etc. Additionally, you can create pages that specify rules for using certain tools, a list of allowed apps, rules for creating teams and channels, naming guidelines to follow, etc.

Searching the Microsoft Teams Internal Wiki

If you don’t have a link to your team’s SharePoint site, you can find out where the wiki data is stored by using a Microsoft Teams search. Type any phrase from the wiki content into the Microsoft Teams search box and switch to the “Files” tab. You will see files with the .mht extension. Click on any file in the preview window that appears and click on “…”. Now select “Open in SharePoint”. ..

Open the “Teams Wiki Data” folder in SharePoint and change its view to the classic view.

In the upper right corner of the page, find a “Search this site” entry. Type “*.mht” (without quotes) and press enter. You should now see search results with your wiki pages. Copy the URL from this page and use it to create a new web tab within Microsoft Teams.

You can now search all wiki content you own using the full-text search feature. The only downside is that you can’t open the results wiki page directly from the search view. You must find the exact page, but you can get a channel name from the link.
