How to Number Slides in MS PowerPoint – Guide

To add slide numbers to your slides in PowerPoint, follow these steps:

  1. Open PowerPoint and click on the File tab.
  2. Click on the Options button.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the options screen and click on the Page Numbers button.
  4. Enter a number for each slide in the Page Number field and click on the OK button.

If you want to keep track of page numbers in your slide master view, you can do so by using the Page Numbering tool.

  1. Click the View tab on the ribbon.
  2. In the View group, click Slides Master.

The Slide Master tab is a great way to see all of your slides at once. You can see the slides that are currently in your slide deck, as well as any slides that have been added to your deck since you last used the Slide Master tab.

Select slide number

In the Master Layout dialog, make sure you have a checkmark next to the slide number. You can also add the Title, Text, Date and/or Footer here if you wish. Once you’ve selected which elements you want to appear on your slides, click OK.

Place and format your slide number

With the slide number added to your slide master, you can now format it and/or place it wherever you want. In this case, I placed mine in the upper right corner of the slide. Where you place it on the parent slide determines where the numbers appear up (by default) on all your child slides.

The main slide layout includes a slide number for each child slide. You can cycle through the child slide layouts and delete the page numbers individually, then click the Footers icon on the ribbon.

Ending the Slide Master view

To return to normal view, on the Slide Master tab, click the Close Master View command at the far right of the ribbon. With the slide number set and formatted correctly, you can close the slide master view. To do this, simply select the Close Master View command from the Slide Master tab on your ribbon. ..

In the Header and Footer dialog, make sure there is a checkmark next to the Slide number. With it selected, you get a preview of where the slide numbers will appear in the upper-right corner of the dialog. After that select: To place a slide number at the top of a slide, select it and then click on its location in the dialog.

To apply a slide number to an individual slide, you must first open the Slide Show Viewer. Then, on the View tab, in the Slides group, click the number of the slide you want to apply the number to. ..
