How To Enable Windows 10 Dark Mode – Guide

It’s almost impossible to escape screens these days. We face laptops for work, televisions during our binge sessions, and smartphone displays at all times. This is bad for our health for a number of reasons – blue light keeps us up at night, and screens can cause eyestrain, among other things – but going offline is unrealistic. For now, turning on dark mode might make screen time easier on the eyes. Windows 10 lets you switch between light and dark themes, choose accent colors, and decide where those changes appear. Here it is how to customize Windows 10 color themes and enable dark mode. (If you upgrade to Windows 11, dark mode just got better). To customize your Windows 10 experience, first open the Settings app by clicking the Start button or pressing the Win+I key combination. In the Settings app window that opens, click Personalization. Under Themes in the Personalization section of the Settings app window, click Colors. In the Colors section of the Personalization window that opens (see Figure 1), select either Light or Dark theme from the Theme drop-down list (depending on your preference), then select a color from the Accent Colors drop-down list if you want to use different colors for text and background (see Figure 2). If you want to change where changes to color themes appear in Windows 10—for example if you want them to apply only to certain apps or windows—click Show Color Themes Everywhere in this section of the window (see Figure 3). Finally, if you want to enable dark mode in Windows 10—a feature that was added with Windows 11—click Enable Dark Mode at the bottom of this window (see Figure 4). Windows 10 has a dark mode that darkens the color palette on the screen. This mode was first introduced in the 2016 Anniversary Update and has been gradually improved. The latest version of Windows 10, May 2020 Update, has the best dark mode so far. If you don’t have dark mode on your computer or device, just update Windows 10 to the latest version.
