The sidebar is one of the most important elements of Slack as it contains all your channels, direct messages, app integrations, and more. And when your Slack workspace has dozens of items in these categories, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by them all. The two main types of links in the Slack sidebar are channels and direct messages. Direct messages appear in channels and are listed in a large alphabetical list by default. You can bookmark them to easily keep track of your favorite channels, DMs and apps. At the top of each section, you can see a star outline. Click on it and the channel will jump to the top of the sidebar in a new section called Tagged.
