8 iOS 16 texting Tips and Tricks You Should Know

Backup iMessages through iCloud

This feature is really handy if you have multiple devices that you use for messaging, like an iPhone, an iPad, and a Mac. If one of your devices goes down, your conversations are still backed up and you can continue to use them on the other devices.

Open Settings and tap on your name. Then turn on Messages.

If you want to delete a communication from one device, but keep it on all of your devices, you will need to delete it from iCloud first. This means that your backup of Messages will reflect your decision to limit the duration of conversations to 90 days.

Block Someone

  1. Block all contact with any contacts you don’t want to communicate with.
  2. Ignore any messages they send you that are not relevant to your interests or needs.
  3. Keep a close eye on your social media accounts and make sure that no contact is following you there without first asking for your permission first.

Open the Phone app and tap Contacts from the menu at the bottom of the screen. Next, choose the person you want to block. You can scroll the list of contacts until you find the person or type their name into the search at the top of the screen.

If you want to stop someone from calling you, you can do so by blocking them on their information page. To do this, scroll to the bottom and select Block Contact. Once you have done this, they will not be able to call you anymore.

Hide alerts, pin conversations and more

The Messages app is great for sending and receiving messages. It also makes it easy to tell the difference between text messages and iMessages: if the message you send is green, it’s a text message. If the bubble is blue, you are iMessageing another user. For instance, you may silence a discussion by left-swiping it and choosing the purple Hide Alerts option. This feature is especially helpful if you’re among a loud group of people who won’t stop chatting about last night’s football game. ..

To pin a conversation to the top of the Message page, hold down on it and choose Pin. The contact photo for the bookmarked conversation will now be displayed above all other messages. Aside from that, be sure to use the search function as well. The Messages app allows you to search within conversations for text, collaborations, locations, photographs, links, and documents. Simply launch the Messages app and hit the top-right search bar.

Take time to set up a Memoji profile

Memoji is a new feature in the Messages app that lets you customize your profile icons. You can use images or Memojis to show your personality. The conversation thread in Messages will start to feel more alive because more people are using Memoji. ..

Hi, my name is ____ and I’m a journalist. I’m looking for a photo of someone. Can you please send me a photo of ____?

Get iMessage set up

To sign in to your iCloud account on an Apple device, you must use your Apple ID and password. Once you sign in, Apple activates iMessage and connects it to the email address(es) you use for your Apple ID as well as the phone number associated with your iPhone. If you exclusively use iMessage on Macs or iPads, which are examples of devices without a phone number, your email address will be used by iMessage. ..

If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and make sure the switch labeled “iMessage” is in the On position.

Share location

  1. Open the app and type in your location.
  2. The app will give you a list of nearby businesses and services that will be able to help you with your location.
  3. To share your location with others, simply tap on one of the businesses or services on the list and select “Share Location” from the popup menu.

Open Messages and select the conversation thread with the person you want to send your location to. Tap their name, then the info button. The person’s details page will open. From here, tap Share My Location. You can share for one hour, until the end of the day or indefinitely. ..

Record and send a voice message

To create a voice-to-text message, press the microphone button in the text bar where you’d normally type. Your iPhone will listen to your words and type them for you. Be careful, though.

It’s not an infallible program and sometimes makes mistakes. Make sure the text is correct before hitting send. To record a voice message, tap the blue audio button under the text bar. Next, tap the red microphone button that pops up after selecting the blue audio button. This begins the recording process.
